I was born in England and before we left he found his sister and called on her. I know he didn’t see his mum again. What is sad is that we didn’t get to meet her. I would have loved to have heard her side of things. It seems from that newspaper article that she was with and married Mr Walker later in life. Did Dad have a happy life? Well he married my mum and they had 12 children.. he was always looking for something over the next hill. I know he tried to find his brothers. Like him maybe they changed their names as well.
Dawnie.

What a very sad and unpleasant childhood he must have had - I hope he managed some happiness in later life............

Did he manage to have any later contact with his siblings?

Looks like this newspaper article from the Nottingham Journal 22 October 1937 could be about your family?

What I would really like to know was why were the children put in into care and my fathers opion of his mother so bad. I know the times were hard but it really affected him. Maybe no one can answer that question now. Just the fact that James Alwyn and Lillian bean have so many descendants not living in England. Dawnie

Dea

Dea Report 13 Mar 2019 09:37

Yes - he was registered as Leonard Thompson and also as Leonard Annable - the mother's maiden name for both being Binkley.

Wow..I am now really confused. I was just looking for family members of my dad side of my family. He left England and didn’t really talk much about his life in England. I am not sure if his family even remember him. I was so long ago. He was put up for adoption and the brothers and sister were split up. I know Mum and dad spoke of Sutton in Ashfield where they used to live.. I have not known grand parents or cousins. I know James had more children after he was born. He was born in 1930. Thanks Dawnie.

Thank you for the info. My dad was born Leonard Annable Thompson. His mother had other babies named with other surnames.. Brinkley berry or bean along side Thompson. He changed his name when he was older..I don’t think he liked his Mum because he never spoke of her much. Thank Dawnie..

I have tracked down a couple of relatives. I know James and Lillian were not married to each other but between all of them had at least 21 children. I know james had ex wives and Lillian had other husbands. I would like to know more about what their lives and their parents lives would have been like. Who my relatives are and who do I look like.. Thanks Dawnie
