Don't look at other people's trees!

Yes, marriage looks right, in correct area too:

Marriage place Killeshil, Tyr, Ireland
Father's name(s) Thomas Ellison
Spouse's name(s) Margaret Johnston
Spouse's birth year 1845
Spouse's marital status Single
Spouse's father's name(s) Andrew Johnston

RG posted the 1901 census for this family on page 6 of this thread. Mother, Margaret (nee Johnston) died 1888 at Ballynahaye.

If that is the correct James Ellison in the 1901, one of his sons was a grocer.

Thank you all, for your immense help. Anne didn't even know her mother's real name, now she knows her gt gt gt grandfathers' names on her mother's side. She is ecstatic, and has asked me to pass her thanks on to you too.

Jan, if you're looking for births of Margaret's sibling, when you get this list of Ellison births up on the Civil records and Dungannon area, you need to look at the image for each one to get the mother's maiden name, it is shown as N/R on the list but is available on the image.

Janet

Janet Report 19 Feb 2019 23:25

Ah thank you, I hadn't noticed that small "image" tab. I'll have a good look tomorrow, time for bed now.

Anne has decided now she wants to know more about her father's side of the family. Guess what - her paternal grandmother was a Kellly :(

rootgatherer

rootgatherer Report 20 Feb 2019 13:08

Well, good luck with that Jan! As the Kelly's on her mother's side were unraveled surely the Kellys on the other side will be more straightforward. We're always here anyway if needed :-)

Janet Report 20 Feb 2019 15:10

I've sent for the Montague D Harrington/Agnes M Kelly marriage certificate, to see if that helps at all - there are records for births of Agnes M Kelly c 1885 in both England and Ireland. They married in 1916, so can't get place of birth from census returns. Apparently she was a very staunch Roman Catholic, insisting on everyone blessing themselves with holy water kept by the front door, before entering her home, but Anne can't remember that she had an Irish accent.

Janet

Janet Report 20 Feb 2019 16:05

If you fancy getting your teeth into something, I'm trying to find Anne's gt grandmother, Emily/Emilie Harrington nee Cattell, according to census returns born c1838 in Wandsworth, whereas the only ones I can find near that date were born in Staffordshire or Birmingham.

Emily and her sister married on the same day and both give their father as Richard.

Here's the family in 1841 and looks like Emily was born in the county.

That is so interesting, because the Harringtons were boot makers and linen drapers. They had 2 shops, 11 & 12 Upper Tachbrook Street and 65 Buckingham Palace Road. If you found that on FMP, I am seriously going to have to consider subscribing.

From Electoral Register:

Name: Richard Cattell
Year: 1873
County or Borough: Westminster
Ward or Division/Constituency: St George Hanover Square
Street address: 65 Buckingham palace road
Reference Number: MR/PER/B/0006

Yes, it's FindMyPast Jan. Did you get Emily's marriage certificate on Ancestry?

I'm thinking they maybe didn't bother to get their daughters baptised.

rootgatherer Report 20 Feb 2019 17:18

Tachbrook Street was the addresses on the marriage certificates.

Janet

I edited my previous post with an interesting note from electoral register

Janet

Janet Report 20 Feb 2019 17:36

The 1851 says Emily was born in St Anns, Westmorland.

rootgatherer

rootgatherer Report 20 Feb 2019 18:08

Think that's a mistransciption. More likely to be St. Ann's, Westminster.

I wonder if Henry was only baptised because his twin was sickly? Charlotte is not with the family in 1841.

St. Anne Westmister is where Emily's parents married. (See marriage posted earlier)
