Thanks again. I was wondering if it might be because of his job.
I wonder when they moved to England. I think Pershore is in Worcestershire. My g grandmother, Margaret Catherine, married in Irvinestown but went on to live in Liverpool and one of her children was called Sidney Herbert.

Looks like Mary was a twin:

Her brother:

Birth:
BROCK, SIDNEY HERBERT (mother's maiden name: GRAHAM )

Baptism for both: (Margaret also went by her second name, Jane):

Gender: Female
Baptism Date: 1 Apr 1871
Baptism Place: Great Comberton, Worcester, England
Father: James Brock
Mother: Jane

Baptism Place: Great Comberton, Worcester, England

1871 English census was taken 2nd of April, so they should be on it.

I suspect they moved around for the father's gamekeeping work. I've added the birth above for daughter Mary Elizabeth- she was born in England.

Thanks Austin, you did better than me, I didn't find the others. I wonder why they moved around so much.

I suspect there were more children as the parents married in 1858, but civil registration for births in Ireland did not start until 1864.

I presume the 4 you have are:

Lucy Jane Brock 1864
Anne Isabella Brock 1866
James Irvine Brock 1868
Margaret Catherine Brock 1873
-----------------------------

There was also daughter Henrietta Brock- she married John Nixon in 1887 Omagh. Her sister, Annie Isabella Anderson (nee Brock) was a witness to the marriage. Henrietta's father was listed as James Brock, game keeper

There was also daughter Mary Elizabeth Brock- recorded as age 18 in 1889 when she married William Henry Donaldson in Clones. Mary's father was listed as James Edward Brock, gamekeeper.

Mary Elizabeth was born in England:-

Birth:
BROCK, MARY ELIZABETH (Mother's maiden name: GRAHAM)

Thanks ArgyllGran. I suppose it's possible he was born in one place and baptised in another - his parents seem to move around quite a bit. James Irving Brock was one of four children - the first was born in Clanbur, Galway, the second in Irvinestown, Fermanagh, then James Irving in Kildare, then the fourth back in Irvinestown.
Very strange.

Could he have been born in one place (Athy), but baptised in County Meath?

But maybe it 's just a mistake in transcription. Maybe someone (or their computer) picked out the wrong "Grange" address.
There's certainly no mention of Meath on the birth cert.

James Irving Brock was born 17 July 1868 in Ireland, to parents James Edwin Brock and Margaret Jane Graham.
On familysearch there are two references to his place of birth - one says Grangegeeth Cross Roads, County Meath, and the other says The Grange, Moore Abbey, Athy.
Birth dates and parents are the same for both.
I'm not very well up on Irish places so does anyone have an explanation for this please.
