Re Walter Edward -

and yet there's this, to confuse the issue -

Ernest William Packard
in the UK and Ireland, Obituary Index, 2004-2018
Name: Ernest William Packard
Gender: Male
Death Date: 22 Sep 1919
Newspaper Title: War
Newspaper Place: Uk

re Walter Edward's record -
as the original document said William Edward before the "correction" was made, maybe they "corrected" the wrong bit of the name? Corrected William to Walter instead of Edward to Ernest?
Perhaps they confused the two men?

EDIT:

But here's another record clearly saying Walter on the image:

Walter Packard
in the British Army WWI Medal Rolls Index Cards, 1914-1920
Name: Walter Packard
Regiment or Corps: East Surrey Regiment, Machine Gun Corps
Regimental Number: L/9932, 104908

The man who died in 1919 wasn't William Ernest ??:

Walter Edward Packard
in the UK, WWI Service Medal and Award Rolls, 1914-1920
Name: Walter Edward Packard
Military Year: 1914-1920
Rank: Sergeant
Medal Awarded: British War Medal and Victory Medal
Regiment or Corps: Machine Gun Corps
Regimental Number: 104908
Previous Units: 9932 E. Surr. R. Sgt

The image originally had his name as William Edward, then William has been scored out and Walter inserted in red pen.

Thanks ArgyllGran - I had realised that but he may have moved away from where he was born and I had thought that it was a 'war death' but I now realise that he died in Suffolk.

If it's his service record you are looking for then there's none coming up online

Not many ww1 service records have survived I,m afraid . Many were lost in the bombings of WW2 when the building they were stored in was bombed

Those that have survived are known as the burnt records

There is a picture of him in uniform on ancestry with his mum and sister
