If this is the birth then it looks as if Jane was illegitimate as the mother's maiden name is also Chapman:-

The birth certificate would give you her mother's full name.

It is possible that the middle initial was the surname of her father as unmarried mother's often gave their child the father's surname as a middle name, although this isn't always the case.

The middle name was Ann, I looked on freebmd and the mothers name came up as
Chapman ?

When the mother's maiden name is the same name as the birth is registered in then it usually means that the mother is unmarried - although a female Chapman could have married a male Chapman but this doesn't happen very often.

You would need the certificate to be sure.

have you found jane in 1939 reg

I've looked on the 1939 register but I can't find a Jane A. Chapman whose birth date fits with the birth above, although she could have married. Can't find a likely marriage either.

Malyon, Isabella gives her DOB as 20 Jan 1890 on the 1939 register.

It looks like her mother may be Isabella then but the only way to be sure would be to buy her birth certificate.

This is another possibility for Isabella so you would need her marriage certificate for her father's name.

I think that birth is possible Malyon but without Isabella's marriage certificate naming her father it's difficult to be sure we have the correct one. There's a few Isabella Chapmans in the right area about the same time and born 1890 +/- 2 years.
