There are any number of McSpirit's in Westby in census 1881 onwards - maybe related to Catherine. Following them through, some are from County Fermanagh which is in what is now Northern Ireland, but is next door to Co. Monaghan - now in Eire. County Cavan borders both (Eire) |

thanks for all your efforts but I think my answer lies somewhere in Ireland. I have been searching for my ancestors since 1962 and have loads of info but the enigma of John McCaffrey (my Grandfather) remains an enigma, at least his birthplace does. and Without his birth certificate my hope of getting an Irish passport will probably die with me as I am 86 years old now.
