Daniel WAS def Roses partner (NOW she tells me - lol). Sorry ladies - she (Bernadette) is more of a novice than me ;-)

I think Flip mentioned that Rose poss had another child (John) in 1939 but going from the neglect article you sent (dated 1942) which stated that the child (Pauline) was a year old and that Rose herself was aged 24 at that time - I suspect DOB to be circa 1918.

That does sound as if Daniel was Rose's partner, and she just called herself Ciego.

I still don't see her death, however. At least not as either McDuff or Ciego, and not with the DOB given in 1939 (if that was her).

Ladies, I have had the family over and have not been online.

The first mention of Ceigo came from Bernadette McDuff b: 31.06.1961 (Mother Pauline). Rose was her Grandmother. Said Ceigo is the name Rose 'went by'. Rose passed circa 2008 in Coxlodge area of Newcastle upon Tyne.

You are right, Daniel could have been her 'partner' - I couldn't find a marriage or a divorce :-(

I did think 1970s is late to marry (Daniel and Cordelia Faichen) as Daniel would have been in his 60s.

I am appreciating all of this help from you experiences ppl and if I have failed to answer a question you have asked - just shout!

I do know that Pauline (McDuff - Allen) placed Bernadette in the care of the nuns between 1961 and 1966 sometime :-(

Re he 1939 record for Rose McDyff/McDuff posted earlier by Dea -

it's another example of a record which is open on FMP but still closed on Ancestry.
I've trawled right through the list of names at the hospital, without finding her on Ancestry.

Does that give us any kind of clue as to when she might have died ?

When and under what name did Rose die (you mentioned 2 names in your opening post) please? There may be a probate record or will that could be checked out.

Like AG, I can't link your Rose to Daniel other than living with him. She may not be your Rose but a totally different person who just happened to be called Rose.

Are you sure that Daniel was her brother and not her 'partner' at the time as I saw somewhere that she was calling herself 'Mrs' Ciego in 1962 :

The above article tells of her being evicted from her cellar flat in Rye Hill. Ther is no mention of a 'Mr' Ciego but there is mention of her dog Lassie (along with 10 new born puppies).

I would still like to know where the name Ciego was found - you haven't really answered that, Elaine.

All Rose's children seem to have been born with mms McDuff - no mention of Ciego.

Are you sure these are not two different Roses?

Unfortunately it does not give her mother's name and I haven't yet been able to find her. I will see if I can save the article to 'keepsakes' on here and if so, I will add a link below for you...............................

In 1972 a Daniel Ciego married in Newcastle - same man ??(Yes, I see Elaine mentioned a 1972 marriage earlier.)

Those are the only records on FreeBMD for any Ciego/Ceigo, at any time.

Just wondered as there is no corresponding birth whether this took part in late December and the death was recorded before the birth, but the names twisted?

But that would mean she died before she was born.

I wonder if the daughter registered Q1 1943 that AG has mentioned - Margaret R is the same child as death was registered in Q4 1942 as Rose M?

Dea the info re sunderland / neglect etc sounds spot on! Ceigo i think was Roses maiden name. Lived with what appears to be her Brother Daniel, a serviceman who married circa 1972 x

As you'll have noticed, Pauline's birth record gives mms McDuff - not Ciego or similar.

Is the Ciego name from the birth cert?

(Not that it's relevant to your enquiry about Pauline's possible marriage! )

There is mention in an article - 07 August 1942 - Sunderland Daily Echo that (what appears to be) the same Rose McDuff by then has a child of around 1 year old who was taken away from Rose and first put into the Cottage Home as it was 'pale and ill-nourished'. Rose was charged with neglect.

Rose and the child were living in 2 dirty rooms with Rose's mother at the time. This would appear to fit with the time Pauline was born?
