IMHO .......... FMP is slightly better at the moment

They got the 1939 Register from the Government first, did the transcriptions (which are not perfect!), but they have been updating a) by FMP members sending in proof of death (eg death certificate) for relatives, and b) by staff slowly and surely checking against the GRO records and opening blacked out records or checking birth dates for people over 100.

Ancestry didn't get the Register until this year ............ and records that have been opened on FMP are still blacked out on Ancestry. I doubt they will share, so the ancestry version will have to depend on members sending in proof of death.

Also remember that thousands of Brits emigrated after the war. Their deaths will not be recorded in the UK and so records will remain closed.

Records of people over 100 years should be open .......... but my uncle was born in 1896 and his record is still closed, her died in Australia in the 1960s.

The above Doris was actually born in 1915 NOT 1845 !! - mothers maiden name for both Edward and Doris was Newby !

The same thing was also the case on another recent thread - I can't remember now which one - where the image on Ancestry showed someone as a closed record, but FMP showed the record opened (or maybe it was vice versa!).

Just wondering if all the sites have the same info for the 1939 census or do some give more up to date info ?

I have a Thomas Hornby born 20 Nov 1863 with wife Priscila 20 June 1880 daughter Doris 24 Sept 1915 then their is one blacked out I've looked for births and their are 2 Phylis 1918 and Edward 1918 not sure if they are the same family so this is why I'm asking about the 1939 census

They are at 13 Kings St Yorkshire (West Riding) K.Z.B.D
