The street address is Graces Alley, Whitechapel - no number.

No, the occupation is definitely not Sailor. I agree with RG - it will be Journeyman tailor.
I'm not sure if the handwriting's different or not, Andy. The "ai" and "or" do look a bit taller than similar letters in surrounding words.

A wealth of information, thanks so much.
No street address given.?

If it is them in 1841, could the occupation of William read Sailor??

The William John child in 1839 must have died, as there is another born late 1850..

Good job.. Thanks again

I think the occupation reads J. Tailor. Presumably it means Journeyman Tailor. If you look at some of the other occupations they also have "J" eg J Carpenter for Journeyman Carpenter.

I'd noticed that as well. Is it me or is the writing for the occupation different to the rest of the page? I was wondering if it had been added by a different hand. Everything else fits.

In the 1841 record posted by Andy for the Flenn family - the father is either a tailor or a jailer.

I have a an 1841 hole in Ann Brimson's story. Can you please help.
Ann Brimson, married William John Flinn 25th December 1838, St. Mary, Newington, Surrey.
Both lived at 68 Walting Street, Newington at the time.
His father Thomas Flinn, Fisherman, William too was a fisherman.
Ann had no occupation, both were full age.
Her father Richard Brimson, she was born in June 1815. Frome
William John was born Southwark, St. Giles, parents, Thomas and Mary.

1851 18? Wellclose Square, Parish St. Mary's, St. Marks, Tower Hamlets, Whitechapel, Middx.
William Flynn 37 Fisherman, b. Surrey, Southwark
Ann wife 35 Somerset, not known
Harriett dau 8 scholar Whitechapel
Ann dau 10 scholar Whitechapel
Mary 4 same
Elizabeth 2 same
William (John) 5 months same

Cant positively identify Ann the daughter's birth, but might be
Ann Maria Flinn MarQ 1841 Whitechapel,
If so, she might be on a census, but I can't find them.
An ideas gratefully received?

Ann the wife if died I believe in 1851 as William, this time and subsequently is Flinn, fire brigade, marries new wife Mary from Deptford.
