Find Ancestors

Is there anyone that would be able to have a look at records and Census entries for me for -

Kate Lottie Edwards (13th April 1882 - Hackney.) Died 1972 - Barking

I know she was a nurse and I have details of her up until 1911, but cannot find details after that except she died in Barking in 1972. I do not have Ancestry membership which I guess would be my best bet, have tried Family Search but nothing after 1911.

I know she never married and had no children. She was in nursing all her working life, but I've no idea where she went after 1911.

I can't find her with that birthday on the 1939 Register.

Are you certain she didn't marry. I know she died with the Edwards surname but there is this possible marriage (unless you know for certain she didn't marry):-

That looks likely Mel. Wonder why the birth date is different?

EDIT- on the image it looks like the birth date has been April 15th and has been changed afterwards to May 1882. There is a note on the right hand side of the page to say the date of birth was amended and the RX Cancelled (?) changed on 13th Oct. 1944.

She is living with other nurses and a superintendent of nurses.

Thank you Mel, that's really helpful. I only have her birth date from searched records, so it may not be correct. I was told she never married and in her retirement lived in the top of my grandparents house with one of her retired colleagues, no idea who she was though.

I have tried to research her Nursing records but have drawn a blank with that too.

Sending for a copy of her will may give some clues

You know that's strange, I wonder if she did marry - then separated or divorced, a family secret perhaps.

My granny died in 1958, grandad died years before and I know the house was then sold, so don't know what happened to her when that happened.

I have wondered why she was living with them anyway.

Wow that was a lot of money to leave in those days! I assumed the proceeds from the sale of the house went to my dad and his brother, I wonder how she accumulated that?

Not the Edwards/Edwards marriage. Shown here as Kate Swinden or Edwards - born 1914 on Register. This Kate is either a divorcee or had lived together for some time and was known as Edwards?

I don't know what to make of that, its quite possible I suppose.

I think, if you were a nurse, you were not allowed to marry, but by 1950 she would have been 68 and retired!

Maybe he died before her and she went to live with my gran and grandad.???

Your Kate is NOT the one married to Thomas Swinden. As someone had suggested the marriage I was able to find further marriage details in both the surnames and then the 1939 register entry with DOB proving not the same person.

n the one I put up there seems to be some red writing over her birthdate but the next name it Ethel breakenridge who is also a nusre and on the next page at the same address is a district nurse and a llot more nurses.

The red writing says May 82 written over Apr 15.
