Hi Can you please help tie up this loose end in my tree. Samuel Richard Cutbill and his wife Maria Tappenden had three children before his death in 1845. There is no sign of Maria on the 1851/1861 census but in 1871 Maria appears as Maria Cathie (transcription error) with daughter Emma Cathie who was born in New York c1850. In 1881 it was Maria Cutbill and daughter Emma Cutbill born 1950 New York The 1891/1901 and the 1911 census all give Emma's birth date as 1850 New York.
Firstly Samuel Richard Cutbill couldn't have been the father? When did Maria go to New York to give birth to Emma? Where are Maria and Emma in 1851/1861 Wendy

Not seeing a death for Annie born 1842, nor an 1851 census entry, so she may have travelled with her Mother?
Online Passenger lists start at 1890, unless someone has access to American arrivals

There are a number of trees on Ancestry, but none have 1845 - 1871 time frame completed except to say Emma was born 1850 ish New York. They restart with the 1871 census.
Not seeing an obvious entry on US census

There's a marriage of Annie Cutbill to Francis Joseph Heapy in 1865 but she lists her father as Richard Cutbill a police sergeant.

Thanks everyone,it was a very slim chance that my problem could be solved but the community has often beaten all the odds to come up with the answer. Thank you again for trying. Wendy

Annie Cutbill's marriage 8 March 1865 probably correct - the marriage shows Father as Richard a Sergeant of Police as noted by MargaretM and her address as 4 Charles Street. One of the witnesses is an Emma Cutbill. Annie's age shown as 22 which would fit with the Q4 1842 birth reg.
Samuel Richard is listed as a Policeman on the baptism record of Maria Jane 22 Nov 1838 St Dunstan's Stepney, (although by 15 June1845 and son Richard's baptism he is a Cabinet Maker of 17 Charles Street).
So, either Annie stayed behind when Maria went to America or they had returned before 1865. May cut down the possible travel years.
If it's the correct death for Samuel Richard, his death was registered as just Richard as posted earlier

Hi Samuel Richard's death was registered as Richard Cutbill in 1845.I did notice that Emma Cutbill was a witness to Annie's marriage, she would have been about 15 years old.I've tried to find a record of her birth in New York but with no success. If Annie stayed in England I can't find her in 1861,the census before her marriage. Wendy
