As you wonderful people are so clever at finding things, and seem to love a challenge, I wonder if anyone would like to look into this problem for me -
Amy Carr 1817-1850 m Joseph Forster 1817, son of John Foster 1792 and Dinah 1793. In the 1851; their son and daughter, William 1847-1927, and Mary Ann 1845 (Foster was transcribed as Souter), were living with their uncle and aunt Thomas and Mary Brown, both born Bexley, Kent, 1805 and 1807 respectively.
John Foster's brother Joseph 1805-1869 had son William Godfrey 1829-1904 who married Sarah Maria Standen 1828-1876 (my great grandparents).
Sarah Maria's parents were Thomas Standen 1800 and Elizabeth Brown 1805.
I am trying to work out if there is a relationship between Uncle Thomas Brown 1805, and Elizabeth Brown 1805. I believe Elizabeth was born in Chelsfield, Kent, and she married Thomas in 1824 at St Mary, Lewisham.

I accept this may be an impossible task, but if anyone is interested and willing to delve into it I'd love to hear from you.
Many thanks,
Jan

I haven't found Thomas and Elizabeth in any census returns unfortunately.
I assume the Bexley Thomas Brown is the one in the census, so far as the Chelsfield one is concerned, the parents are different from the ones for Elizabeth. Why couldn't they have a more unusual surname?
I have spent hours trying to sort this out. My husband used to ask me why it mattered, but I am sure you all understand why it does.

Now I'm wondering if I even have the correct Elizabeth. The marriage to Thomas Standen was at St. Mary's Lewisham, and it says Spinster of this parish.
So would someone born in Chelsfield be of the parish of Lewisham?
I haven't been able to pinpoint Thomas Standen at all, there are so many in various parts of Kent (even assuming he was born in that county). though again in the marriage record it says he is Of this parish.
The only definite fact I have is from Sarah Maria's christening record, which shows her parents as Thomas Standen and Elizabeth. Thomas and Elizabeth Brown were married in the same church as Joseph Forster and Mary Ann Copper, who were William Godfrey's parents. William Godfrey married Sarah Maria Standen. So from that I assumed, rightly or wrongly, that Elizabeth Brown was Sarah Maria's mother.

In census returns after Sarah Maria Standen married William Godfrey Forster, her place of birth is given as Sydenham; her christening record gives her address as Shooters Hill, Plumstead.
