Thank you once again - I will try and check the census when possible to see if there are any clues there....and then start ordering the certificates!!!

I think the 1919 is a strong possibility - the trouble is that so is this one:

I have a feeling the one in the newspaper article would have been a younger man as he had only within the previous few days started work as a 'drawer' in the Colliery. As far as my limited knowledge goes, this was usually a role filled by a young man or even a boy ?? - This is only a feeling though so cannot be relied upon. I also noted a death registration for a JOHN Barrow in Wigan at the right time and as I could not find one for a James anywhere at all at that time I wondered if either the registration or the newspaper could have made an error ?? - This 'John' was 20 years old which would sound about right ??

I will order it I think - she married Samuel Hayes in 1872 and died 1893 under the name Isabella Barrow!!

are you sure the death i posted is not him born about 1832 died in lancashire 1919
if he left his wife she may have lied that she was a widow

I am afraid it doesn't help us at all as there are no personal details about him. I was trying to find the death registration to check at least for his age but very strangely I couldn't find one registered in or around Hindley ???
