When ancestors have served in First World War where would you go to get the details please would it be Kew? If so would it be worth ringing them first to see if they have them?

Gee Report 30 Mar 2018 16:22

You can find them online at Ancestry, if the records survived

The National Archives also hold some records

What names are you looking for? If you give the details I can look on Findmypast to see if they are there.

About 70% of first world war records were destroyed in a fire so there is a chance that you won't be able to find them.

Chris Ho :) Report 31 Mar 2018 17:16

Only seems to be that Medal Reference...(anything else would have come up on a search, FMP or Ancestry)

(National Archives have same)

(Detective posted below info. on other 'Thread')

Up to 70% of WW1 records were destroyed during WW2 bombing although medal cards have survived...

You can download the image from the link Chris has given above for £3.50p but it won't give you any more details than on the transcription. His service records must have been among those destroyed in a fire in WW2.
