Thanks for this info Alviegal. The dates don't quite match up, and yet everything else (location, spouse, shoemaker etc) match almost too well to be a coincidence, so I don't know....

I think my Alexander Shoemaker was born February 1796 : (top entry) https://www.genesreunited.co.za/keepsafe/asset/details/68106462 near Kiltarlity. And in turn his son Alexander was born in Kiltarlity too and shows his mother as Christy Sutherland: https://www.genesreunited.co.za/keepsafe/asset/details/68005935 (middle of the page).

Could you advise which platform you used to find this information?

familysearch is a good site its free I found that information on there

Thanks for that information Malyon, I will investigate those leads. I have scoured Find my Past for BMD details of both Alex and his family prior to 1796 and also Christy Sutherland, but information starts getting a bit sketchy. I have worked out from 1841 and 1851 census that Christy's dad was a Donald Sutherland born around 1771 which is helpful.

Morning All.

I would like a last try to find more information on certain relatives from the beginning of my family tree. I have the birth register (see below) of Alexander Macdonald (shoemaker) born 25/02/1796 in Kiltarlity. He was later married to Christy (Christian) Sutherland who was also born in 1796, and they were parents to Alexander (Stationmaster), Margaret, Christy, Donald and Anne.

The witnesses on Alex's (stationmaster 24/10/1840) birth register
https://www.genesreunited.co.za/keepsafe/asset/details/68106462 are Thomas & William Fraser from Dochgarroch's Hill nearby Kiltarlity, so I assume that Alex & and Margaret's (04/06/1840) mother was a Fraser before marriage.

I would love to find out more about Alex Shoemaker's father (Alex'r) shown in his birth certificate, and possibly more about Christy Sutherland whom I have little detail of, except that she had a brother called Donald who was a witness on Margaret's birth register.
