Thank you all for your input. I will buy William's birth certificate as Catherine suggests. It's a shame he was born just after 1911 census was taken, but hopefully I could then find parents.

Perhaps she’d been married before, or wasn’t free to marry.

You could also buy a copy of the birth certificate to find both parents names. If you buy that of William it should give you an adress so may be possible to find them in 1911 census.

I have William Henry Pinnock b 4 Sep 1911 in Shoreditch d 1987
Mary Pinnock b 6 Mar 1913 in Shoreditch d 1992
Alfred George Pinnock b Dec 1914 in Shoreditch d unknown
All have mother's maiden name as Bastick.
I have tried to find the marriage Pinnock/Bastick on Ancestry and Freebmd without success.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
