I am soo confused now.
It seems that the Mary Walter (Unmarried) on the 1861 census...was actually the wife of John Walter??
Here she is on the 1871census...

WALTER, GEORGE LEMUEL MMN HOLMES GRO Reference: 1859 M Quarter in KINGSTON SURREY Volume 02A Page 196

Yep, me too PH ... Susannah's driving me nuts. I too seem to be spending an awful lot of time on her. With assaults, etc., in this family I wonder what else we're going to find ... hopefully he didn't murder her??

I have to confess to becoming a tiny bit obsessed with Susannah Rowles. :-D
Soooo frustrating that she can't be found on the 1861 census and what happened to her after 1871.
I must have spent over four hours searching for her!! :-S

I'm still sifting through all this info, can't quite get my head around it yet. I wonder what happened to Susannah? It gets weirder and weirder - I'm doing this research for a friend who has no family connection to me whatsoever, but in one of the censuses while looking for John Rowles, I found someone with the same surname as my husband living with him. I'm sure there's no connection but just thought I'd mention it. Anyway, back to Susannah. Do you think it's strange that she's on the 1851 census as wife but in 1871 she's a school mistress - do you think it's the right Susannah? Like you PH I can't find her anywhere in the 1861 census.

Well, i have found Brook Street in 1861
I don't know if it's all of it or part of it.
I have sifted through the pages (3 i think) but no luck finding any name that resembles a Susannah Rowles.
If you wan't to take a look.....
I looked up this chap.......
William Hidgwrick in the 1861 England Census
Name: William Hidgwrick.........He is actually William Liquorish Age: 46 Estimated birth year: 1815 Relation: Head Spouse's Name: Mary Hidgwrick Gender: Male Where born: Kingston, Surrey, England Civil Parish: Kingston on Thames Ecclesiastical parish: All Saints Town: Kingston County/Island: Surrey Country: England
It is also a mystery what happend to Susannah after 1871.
I checked out this marriage.......
Marriages Jun 1878 (>99%) Rowles Susannah Brentford 3a 101 WALTERS David Brentford 3a 101
But it's not the right Susannah.
