Hello,
I keep coming back to this branch of my tree because its driving me crazy. Parents Walter Watley 1851- Alice Hoare 1851-
Children George 1870- Eliza 1872- Sarah 1875- Alice 1878- My direct relative William 1881- Bessie 1882- Polly 1887-
I've found them it the 1881 Kingston, Somerset and 1891 Yeovilton, Somerset census but after that its like they vanish.
I've found Alice on all the census its just the rest of her family that i cant find. I thought maybe they had tragically all died or emigrated but I recently found Walter Watley on his Granddaughters (Alice's daughter Maud) school registration form in November 1909.
I know the name is a bit of a pain as Ive found it spelt all kinds of ways.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thank you

Yes Ive found them as Watley,Whatley, Whittley, Wattley and a few others.
I did look for marriages but I didnt seem to find anything. The most likely thing I found was Bessie as a servant in London on the 1901 census.

I found last night that Walter Snrs older sister Keziah 1836-1920 has four illegitimate sons one called John so that could be the nephew. It’s quite sad actually because Keziah was living with her parents and children but then in the 81,91,01,11 censuses she’s in the work house.

(Woolfry family at that Farm 1911, so perhaps they 'looked after' Walter!)
06 July 1894 - Western Chronicle - Yeovil, Somerset, England
On Sunday about noon a fire was discovered to have broken out in a cottage occupied by a shepherd named Whately, in the employ of Mr. Parsons, of Speckington Farm.
(says Whatley was accommodated with a house at Bridghampton)
Was there a Daughter that went to America?...(if below related, or was the truth!)
06 February 1892 - Chard and Ilminster News - Chard, Somerset, England
(another (quite long!) article, relating to theft of a watch and chain, worth £3 the property of Hannah Harding, of Knowle St. Giles, wife of George Harding. George Whatley, farm labourer, Speckington near Yeovil, charged with stealing it, said his sister sent it to him from America...he added that the watch was at his home at Speckington locked in a box....when conveyed back there the watch was handed over by Whatley's mother who took it from a drawer in the kitchen... On being charged Supt. Rawlings said Whatley had never been before the bench before, but he did not bear a good character. He was sentenced to six months hard labour.)

Thanks Chris thats great, definatley the right Walter as he was living in one of the cottages on the Speekington Manor Farm in the 1891 census.
I dont know about a daughter going to america but its totally possible. I ran in to a little snag because I've discovered that George Whatley has a cousin called George Whatley and annoying born in the same year in the same area. But saying that only one of them has sisters so Ill focus on that one.
