I'm fairly certain the 1884 prison register is for our James. He was convicted of stealing the lead from the roof of St Matthew's Church. Our James was living in St Matthew's parish at that time.

A few articles on the offence report he was from 'The Mount'- Handford Road was in this area (the family were living at Handford Cut- a road running off Handford Road)

lol AG...(never!)

Think Carol would need to buy some Certs...

Chris :)

(above was probably the other party, 1897 Marriage)

Was also looking for Hobart Garrod (his Father) after 1871...

(out shopping shortly, will look in later, have fun!)

Very well done with the marriage, AQ!

I spent hours looking for it, with all sorts of variations, and couldn't find it!

Thank goodness - now I can relax!

AustinQ

AustinQ Report 27 Feb 2018 09:15

Lol Chris!

Unfortunately that's as much as I can add- I can't see the details of the marriage on-line.

I did wonder if James had been married previously (to a Sarah A Bloomfield) in Ipswich 1884 (James would just be 18). I can't see any children born to the couple. Then wondered if this was James- it wouldn't have been a great start to a marriage:

England & Wales, Crime, Prisons & Punishment
First name(s) James
Last name Garrod
Year 1884
Birth year 1867
Occupation Labourer
County Suffolk
Court Ipswich
Age 17
Date 16 Oct 1884
A Calendar Of Prisoners Tried At The October General Quarter Sessions Of The Peace For The Year 1884
