On findmypast I have found the banns for James Gosling and Elizabeth Harvey. It gives the name as Gosten on the transcript but on the image it looks like Goslin. Is anyone able to look at this and decipher the word following his name. It looks like miler.
James was born in 1770 in Ermington, Devon, and the marriage was 1798 in Newton Ferrers. I don't have any information on Elizabeth.

Found the marriage on their too and the word looks like miller, but why would that be after his name. It says spinster after Elizabeth's.

under their banns is andrew good of this parish and he is a husbandman which is a tennant farmer

Thanks safc. It says Residence Miller but on the actual banns it gives his name followed by milor and then Elizabeth's name followed by spinster. Do you think it could possibly be his occupation?

Yvonne ............ you often see the man's occupation on parish registers, not always unfortunately.

It usually also says either Bachelor or Widower.
