I would greatly appreciate any info on my grandmothers Minnie Doreen Phillips parents born Australia. I know her dad's name was Evan Phillip and her Mum Mary Ann.. I can only find a Maryann Brown but without proof I cannot be sure if this is her parents. Also, the family talk is that the Phillips came out as convicts. My grandmother born in Australia.

MR. E. PHILLIPS.
Mr. Evan Phillips, of John.street, Tighe's Hill, who died
at the Mater Misericordiac Hospital, Waratah, after a
short illness, was 70. He was born at Mayfield and had lived
at Tighe's Hill for 48 years. He was an employee at the
B.H.P. for 35 years before retirement.
He is survived by his widow, six daughters and two sons.
They are Mrs. Alice Hicks,of Speers Point, Mrs. Coral
McGovern, of Mayfleld West, Mrs. Iris Thorley of Islington,

Thank you for all your help and honestly, I am not good at this research....I have only just received my Nans birth cert but what is confusing to me is that on the Birth cert of Minnie Doreen it says her mother's name is Mary Jane Brown?

On Birth cert it says ...Minnie Doreen born 13th August 1916....Father aged 34 Evan Phillips, Labourer, birthplace Waratah NSW and Mary Jane Brown aged 32, Birthplace Wickham NSW. Married 1st December 1904. Adamstown, NSW, Australia.

When I put in a search in the Births, Deaths and Marriages NSW with all the right details so that I can order a copy of their marriage Certificate, nothing comes up and it says "No Matching Records found" and but when I put only his name and her first name and no definite date or place of marriage it brings up an Evan Phillips and Mary A Brown married Adamstown NSW. I just do not wish to waste money on one that is not them.

Is it not possible that who ever registered Minnie's birth just assumed Mary's middle name was Jane?

I think in this case it's reasonable to assume Mary Ann & Mary Jane are the same people.

If Minnie married Mr Mulholland, then her mother was listed as Mary Ann in the papers. There may have been some confusion as Mary also went by the name Polly- a common alternative to Mary.

Looks like the birth I posted for Mary Ann is correct, with mother's name Elizabeth.
