Thank you very much Ron. I will follow that up with National Archives, and really appreciate your time in enquiring for me.
I didn’t know about the 1871 date either. That’s useful to know.
Best wishes
Glyn

Good morning Glyn, unfortunately I was unaware that the records held at the Royal Hospital Chelsea (RHC) start in 1871. Before that date the records are held by the National Archives at Kew. My contact at the RHC did look to see if there was anything post 1871, but drew a blank I'm afraid. Sorry not to have had a more positive outcome. I suggest you contact the National Archives https://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/contact-us/
There's a live chat facility, as well as telephone contact details etc. I've found them very helpful when I've contacted them or visited the building.
Best of luck with your research

Glyn, further to my previous message I've just noticed on the Royal Hospital's website that they charge £20 for an archival search. I'll see if I can get some information for you myself, but it may take a couple of weeks as I am only there on a Monday.

Glyn, since retiring I have become a part time civilian volunteer at the Royal Hospital Chelsea. The hospital has an archive section that may be able to help with your query. I can enquire on your behalf or, if you prefer, I can provide the postal address or email address so you can get in touch with them direct.
Let me know.

Yes thank you. That is definitely James that’s in my family tree. So he had his leg amputated. Wow. May I ask did you find that out from National Archives? It didn’t stop him living a long life and marrying twice!!!

Hi, I’m trying to find out more about this reference and not having much success. Military things are quite involved at times, and I’m at a loss how to interprete this information or find out more. Can anyone help please?

From Royal Hospital Chelsea Pensioner Admissions and Discharges 1715-1925

JAS BEACHAM aged 22
Pension 24/11/1824
Regiment 8th

On later censuses he has Chelsea Pensioner added to his occupation.

His name is spelt in different ways, was originally James Beauchamp, but otherwise written Beaucham, Beachum, Beacham.

I wondered what happened to him to get a pension, what the 8th is and where it fought, and how much was the pension.

His DOB is 1803

I found that information on Ancestry but couldn’t find how they had it or original records. There was another website mentioned called Fold 3 but that looks as though you have to subscribe to that too, so any help would be appreciated.
