What I know is that Patricia Dorothy Olson had parents Frederick Olson and Dorothy Ashford. They were probably married in Southampton in 1930s.However Frederick was from Norway and his parents or grandparents were mixed Norwegian and Sami ( reindeer nomadic people), and came from possibly Norway. That’s pretty vague I know which is why I haven’t had any success but I know many of you love a challenge and are much better at finding obscure things out than me Can anyone help please? Thank you

Thank you. That seems a good start. I’m more interested in the Olson lead with possible connections to a Norway and the Sami people. Can anyone help or give me any suggestions on how to investigate this side of the family? Thank you

You could start by buying a copy of his marriage certificate, this should give you his father's name and occupation, which could help find information, or confirm any information already found.

If the information above is correct (it seems to be but you would need his marriage certificate to confirm) then Charles/ Frederick was from Hampshire- however, his Grandfather was from Sweden: This is the family in 1881.

The above marriage is a transcription- I don't see the original to check Andrew's father's name. I don't see Ulstier as a name (perhaps a verson of Allister/ Ollister?)- you need the original marriage cert to see if this is an accurate transcription.

As he was a mariner, perhaps he wasn't actually at home in 1871, but Elizabeth just put him on the list anyway ???
???
Andrew Olson in the 1871 Scotland Census Name: Andrew Olson Age: 34 Estimated birth year: abt 1837 Gender: Male Where born: Norway Registration district: Royal Navy County: Royal Navy Address: Tobermory Norton Isle Of Mull Hebrides Occupation: Sailmaker ED: Flirt Household schedule number: 1 LINE: 4 Roll: CSSCT1871_191
Re address: Norton will be a mistranscription of some other word.
EDIT:
But maybe not. There are other mariners named Andrew Olson, around the right age, in 1881.

Hampshire Advertiser 11 June 1887
DEATHS On the 5th Inst in Dock Street, Southampton, Andrew Olson, aged 47 ------------------------------
Hampshire Advertiser 18 March 1885
School Attendance Cases
...Elizabeth Olson of No. 42 Dock Street was summoned for similar neglect - It appearing that her husband should have been summoned, the bench dismissed the information, though Mrs Olson promised to send the child regularly in future ----------------------------------------------
Possible for Andrew?
Hampshire Telegraph 12 February 1859
Andrew Olson, John Thompson and Charles Poold, seamen belonging to the merchant barque Psyche, now lying in Portsmouth Harbour undergoing repair, all pleaded guilty to a charge of willfully disobeying the lawful commands of Daniel McDermott, the master, on Wednesday last by refusing to haul in the slack of a warp and also to keep watch. They now expressed their determination not to go to sea in the ship which is bound for Mauritius, stating her not to be seaworthy. They were each sentenced to seven days imprisonment with hard labour -------------------------------------
As there are several Andrew Olson, I think you need his 1862 marriage certificate to be sure of his father's name

The trouble is, no matter which website you use, we don't know his year of birth, not which part of Norway he came from, nor his father's name - and there are a lot of Andrew Olsons!
Ancestry and FamilySearch both have a lot of Norwegian records - many in Norwegian, but fairly easy to figure out what they say.
Advice here, amongst other places:
https://www.familysearch.org/wiki/en/Norway_Genealogy
https://www.arkivverket.no/en/find-your-ancestors/tracing-your-ancestry
http://digitalarkivet.uib.no/sab/howto.html

Just Google "family tree research Norway" or similar.
