When the census people work out ages they take the age someone says they are away from the census year.
ie. census 1851 - age 2 = born 1849

However, most census are taken early April and a 2 year old could have been born anytime post census date, later in April 1848 - early April 1849. So there's an almost 75% chance for them to have been born the earlier of the 2 possible years.

Likewise a 50 year old could have been born 1800/1801 at 1851 census time.

Add to that the fact that not everyone knew precisely when they were born ........... and those who told little white lies about it !!

Don't forget too, that there is a 6 week period of grace from birth to when the birth has to be registered, so you can get someone born in mid November - ish 1848, not registered until the Jan/Feb/Mar Quarter in 1849

Hi I’m looking for info on Joseph Myatt born Birmingham 1849 - his father I think was a slipper maker originally from Trentham - staffotdshjre

I think Joseph married a lady called Madelia Kidd.(?!)

Would be great if the marriage cert was available to view Joseph fathers name
- I’m no 100% sure but I think it may be Leveson Myatt.
