I wanted to find out about Edward Davis, father of alfred thomas davis and edwards father edward
married 10 Aug 1843 Matilda Gough, st john the baptist, St John Baptist, Bristol, Gloucestershire, England.on the marriage record he is listed as miller and "of age" (no helpful i agree) his father is listed as sawyer.
Alfred Thomas Davis(Dentist) Born 24/06/1844 to edward davis, a widower and matilda gough (1815) listed as living in rudge, somerset
listed as west harptree in one btispm with birth date
and 2nd baptism same birth date same parents, temple bristol.
Edward disappears i assume he died but the common place name is not helping.
Matilda Davis and son move to upper easton bristol with her parents elizabeth and samuel died the previous year. they only had one child together before matilda married william baynton wyatt.
So primarily i would want to know about the edwards of the davis
Thank you
Ben

I see we've investigated this family before:
Alfred in 1861:
Alfred T Davis in the 1861 England Census Name: Alfred T Davis Age: 16 Estimated birth year: 1845 Relation: Grandson Mother's name: Elizabeth Owen Gender: Male Where born: West Harptree, Somerset, England Civil Parish: Bristol St George Ecclesiastical parish: St Mark County/Island: Gloucestershire Country: England Street address: Occupation: Condition as to marriage: View image Registration district: Clifton Sub-registration district: St George ED, institution, or vessel: 2 Neighbors: View others on page Household schedule number: 97 Piece: 1731 Folio: 34 Page Number: 19 Household Members: Name Age Elizabeth Gough 79 Elizabeth Owen 57 Alfred T Davis 16 Sarah Alsop 19
I see I commented on Ancestry four years ago:
"Elizabeth Owen was his aunt, not his mother. His mother was Matilda Davis, nee Gough.Per baptism record, & 1851 census."

Maybe a possibility for Edward's death, if he died before Alfred was born ??
Edward Davis in the England & Wales, Civil Registration Death Index, 1837-1915 Name: Edward Davis Registration Year: 1844 Registration Quarter: Jan-Feb-Mar Registration district: Clutton Inferred County: Somerset Volume: 11 Page: 87
EDIT:
No, that one was aged 11 - either years or months.

Re MargaretM's query about 1851:
William Baynton Wyatt in the Bristol, England, Select Church of England Parish Registers, 1720-1933 Name: William Baynton Wyatt Gender: Male Marital Status: Single Marriage Date: 20 Jul 1848 Marriage Place: Bristol, St James, Gloucestershire, England Father: Richard Wyatt Spouse: Matilda Davis
William Baynton Wyatt in the England, Select Births and Christenings, 1538-1975 Name: William Baynton Wyatt Gender: Male Baptism Date: 22 Dec 1819 Baptism Place: Bristol, Gloucester, England Father: Richard Wyatt Mother: Sarah Wyatt FHL Film Number: 1596678
So this looks like William in 1851:
William B Wyatt in the 1851 England Census Name: William B Wyatt Age: 31 Estimated birth year: abt 1820 Relation: Son Mother's name: Sarah Wyatt Gender: Male Where born: Bristol St Phillips Out Civil Parish: Bristol St Philip and St Jacob Ecclesiastical parish: St Jude County/Island: Gloucestershire Country: England Street address: Occupation: Condition as to marriage: Disability: View image Registration district: Clifton Sub-registration district: St Philip and Jacob ED, institution, or vessel: 1d Neighbors: View others on page Household schedule number: 101 Piece: 1954 Folio: 121 Page Number: 26 Household Members: Name Age Sarah Wyatt 49 William B Wyatt 31 - married - journeyman carrier (maybe currier?) George H Wyatt 18 Elizabeth B Wyatt 15
Matilda's listing as Davis in 1851 could be an assumption on the enumerator's part, because Alfred's name is Davis. Or maybe she and William had separated, and she'd reverted to her maiden name ??
However, that's no help with Edward!

The 1845 burial for Edward could well be correct, Chris.
I expect Edward continued living at the same address after Jane died in 1842, and then Matilda went to live with him there after their marriage in 1843.
Not sure what you mean, wondering about how Ben came across Edward? Alfred's birth record states father Edward and mother Matilda, and from the 1851 census his mother is Matilda nee Gough. Edward & Matilda's marriage record says he was a widower, and his father was Edward

Thank you. No idea when he was born or where the marriage certificate is not helpful. Jane lester I came across this before but that's also St. John the Baptist but this is in Glastonbury and Edward and Matilda were married at St. John the Baptist in Bristol. So I am not convinced on this

But Matilda was born and lived in Bristol before marriage, so that's where her marriage would take place.
Jane Lester presumably lived in Glastonbury, and therefore her marriage took place there.
I don't see any problem with that.
