All I know is Dorothy went to Quetta India as a childrens nurse in 1939 and married George Nicholls in quetta in March 1940.
Did she follow him or meet him there I do not know.

I think Chris does have the correct family (Father married as James DOOLAN to Elizabeth Esther Bowles- but name varied from Dolan to Doolan):

The 4yr old niece can be positively identified.
Her name was:

Her parents were: George Emery and Alice Bowles
Which suggests that Alice Bowles was the sister of Elizabeth Bowles who married James Doolan
The child's father was also a soldier.
He was an Acting Bombardier in the Royal Horse Artilliery (RHA)
