Hi i'm revisiting old searchig -but havent copied and linked these as i fear it may actually confuse things. I don't want people to search for me really, just advice on how to go forward if possible? Facts Constance Parkhouse was born 6th May 1915 in Exeter Devon. Parents Charles and Ellen Parkhouse. Orphaned in 1920 (Exeter) and never heard of again. School record just says left district. her bother and sister were split up too -i found them -but she wasn't with them. Iv'e checked barnardos, local orphanages, marriages etc etc.for years.
BUT i just found on 1939 an odd entry -with the correct date of birth of a lady called Constance who cant decide what her correct name is!!its kilburn High Road Middlsex.
It says shes called Peggy, but corrected to Constance, and surname is down as Dalton and Day ! she's unmarried, but its the date of birth combined with the confusion over name that got me wondering. But i have no idea how i can check it out? obviously there is no place of birth on 1939 either. any suggestions how i can check this lady out? if there are any please? please no shouty people - :-(

Yes I saw the death of Constance Day a few years back but still no way I can see of knowing if its her? I have thought of getting the certificate - but I dont know how it will help? The only way I can think i,ll find her is through a marriage cert and her naming her father on it. it's a really difficult puzzle. - but I'm glad you spotted it too andrew

Looking at the original entry of the 1939 register it looks like the name change to Constance Peggy Day was entered onto the register on 11th March 1946 in Willesden (BXA is the code for Willesden).
In 1946 this Constance P Day appears on the electoral registers:
76 High Road, Willesden Constance P Day Thomas E Day Mary E Parker Wm J Parker
She is still at the same address in 1954:
76 High Road, Willesden Constance P Day Thomas E Day Christine Murphy Mary E Parker Wm J Parker ------------------------------
There are also two possible births in 1946 & 1949 Willesden surname Day with mother's maiden name Dalton

oh thank you everyone-yes indeed -Margaret was her elder sister -and took me years to find as only recently its got easier! but sadly no she wasn't-the other sibling Charles Junior I traced too - he never saw or heard of Constance again after they were separated up. Thanks for the 1946 register.
I don't get why Dalton/Day on 1939 -but single? its all very odd -but thats what makes me very curious!
i can't fidn a birth reg for Constance Peggy Dalton either
I will keep sleuthing -and thank you very much!

The Day(Dalton) means that on 29 Sep 1939 she was using Dalton as her surname. Day, outside of the brackets, indicates that was the surname she changed to (1946) and in her case was the one her death was registered under.
The 1939 register was a working document to 1991/2 and updated with name changes when they took place. It was used as a basis for the NHS system.

If she married a Wilkinson, that would have been indicated on the register. You could always buy the MC to check. Mind you, if she’d been fostered from such an early age, she might not have known her father’s name. However, it would give her declared age.
She might just have assumed the Day surname!
As Angela & Alan are hopefully still alive, could you edit their birth refs to protect their privacy please?

There is also a 1946 Day (mmn Dalton) birth. I didn't post the births as they could still be living.
I don't think the Peggy C Dalton/ Douglas Wilkinson marriage is connected.
Peggy and Douglas are on the electoral registers together living in Willesden. ------------------
I suspect that Thomas E Day had been previously married- that could be why we can't find his marriage to Constance/ Peggy
