If he was adopted by Mary J Lawson then do you know his birth surname. Where was Mary J Lawson 1901?
Could you please post his death record?

Hi William died on 13th April 1917 ...trooper w. Lawson. In the Accrington observer it said William Lawson adopted son of Mary j Lawson from altham. Think Mary was in altham at time of 1901 census ..or maybe by 1911 she was in altham. In 1901 she may have been in sawley :-)

Thanks ..yes this is correct Mary Jane Lawson. Interesting that she moved to Blackpool later on. And yes , no mention of William. He left her his effects when he died as she was next of kin. Think that must have been from ancestry ? I wonder if he was born under a different surname . We did think she had perhaps adopted a family members son ...william....but whose ....will we ever know ...tough one. Thanks for all this extra info ...hopefully will get some clues ... :-)
