No, the death I posted can't be the boys' mother, unless the age is wrong. She would only have been 6 when Reuben was born!
Grasping at straws - perhaps the age on the death record is wrong - maybe should be 30, not 20. The boys' mother presumably did die before the 1851 census date - unless she couldn't cope, and handed them over to Samuel and his wife.

Thankyou all so much I believe now that the Charles that died in 1842 was Esther and Charles son as they lived Leicester street I have digested this all, you have all been so helpful I believe now that Charles was in the workhouse on 1841 with his unmarried mum and possibly Rueben his brother but then on igi they both have different mothers? Isn't family history fun don't think I will be able to get back on this line I think if the archives gave info from 1841 that may help me.

Sidami.
It appears that your Charles (that married Elizabeth Marshall) was not the son of Esther and Charles.
Charles, the son of Esther and Charles, likely died in 1842.

If the boys were illegitimate, it's unlikely their father would've had their surname.
Reuben's marriage to Mary Lindsey McCall in 1860 states he was a chimney sweep, 23 years of age. Father- Charles Hare, Shoemaker
Second marriage to Rachel Martin in 1873- Reuben, labourer (Louth Road) is a bachelor! age 32. Father- Titus Hare, cordwainer. -----------------------------
Charles marriage to Elizabeth Marshall 1867. Charles a chimney sweep age 26 (Louth Road). father Titus Hare, joiner

(right!, lol, so would it be that Sue has 2 different brothers Marriage Certs?...
Chris :)
(below posted by her earlier)
Chris this is why I am finding this all very confusing, I tried to research this family a few years ago, just come back to it and still none the wiser. I know Charles is buried in Horncastle he died 1904 age 63 so that makes his birth 1841 so I sent for the birth certificate and it came back as Charles Hare and Esther nee Masters the parents, then Charles got married and he gave his father as Titas? I have the marriage certificate for that as well.So that confused me.
I know from the 1851 census that there was a Charles in Horncastle with Reuben, so I was taking it that they were brothers I did find on the 1841 census these 2 were in the workhouse in Thrapston ... I also found Esther was with Charles on the 1841 so the other one I found for 1841 with Charles and Reuben was maybe not the right family.
I also have the marriage certificate for Rueben giving his father in 1860 as Charles deceased? So I am still none the wiser , are Charles and Rueben brothers? Family history does stop you sleeping.
(and No, can't see a Titus/Titis either)
