Hi, Beginer to this family tree thing and am already stuck.
My Grandad's mother was called Alice scott born 1896 in Shipley, Bradford. I have the short certificate of registry of birth which gives the DOB as 9th February 1896 sub district Idle but no other information.
I have therefore searched for her birth index which bring up 2 Alice Scott's both in District North Bierley (Idle and Shipley falls into this one) both DOB 1896 and both in quater 1. - How do I work out which one is my Alice Scott without having to buy 2 birth certificates?

Starting from something you know would help. What was your grandad's name and when was he born? What was his father's name?

Hi,
I have Alice Scotts marriage certificate she married Thomas Seeley Goode 15th January 1916 and her father is Jowett Scott. I also have Thomas Seeley Goode birth certificate 6th February 1893 Manningham Bradford. I believe I know her mother is Ann Elizabeth Throup but would like to confirm this on the birth certificate. My grandad is still living so dont want to post his info but he doesnt have any other info on her.

I think you are right in your assumption that her mother is Ann Elizabeth Throup.
The birth certificate for this Alice is the one with page number 213 (from the GRO website which gives mother's maiden name from 1837 up to 1911). The other Alice Scott birth looks to be an illegitimate birth as the mother's maiden name is not given, so the birth is to an unmarried mother.
