I have Sophia Riches c1830 born Norwich, 6th Jan 1846 given 2 months prison for Larceny, 1847 given 7 years for Larceny & felony transported to Van Demons Land 1848 where she married a Henry Webster in 1849 who had also been transported from the uk. records appear to have one or two Sophia Riches born around the same period, would appreciate help in finding the correct parents, my assumption is Charles Riches, 1806 Wrentham & Elizabeth Bishop, 1816 Little Melton, as on the 1841 census with a Sophia dob 1831, but baptism given as 9/2/1830 at St. peter mancroft Norwich. Several Tree's on Ancestry have confusing parent lines, Any help much appreciated to point in the right direction to purchase birth certificate.

Is this the Sophia that you think is "yours":-
1841 England, Wales & Scotland Census Transcription Shuttle Yard, Heigham, Norwich, Norfolk, England
First name(s) Last name Gender Age Birth year Birth place Charles Riches Male 35 1806 - Elizabeth Riches Female 25 1816 Norfolk, England Sophia Riches Female 11 1830 Norfolk, England Elizabeth Riches Female 7 1834 Norfolk, England Jemima Bishop Female 55 1786 Norfolk, England
There is another Sophia Riches born c.1832 but she is also on the 1851 census in Norfolk so can't be the one transported in 1848.
I think you are correct in thinking that "your" Sophia was the daughter of Charles and Elizabeth.
There will not be a birth certificate as civil registration did not start until July 1837 so only baptism records available before that date. Think this is the baptism (in 1831 not 1830):-

Would Full Age be 21 ? Yes Kath, thats the one i am leaning to.
|
Full age should be 21 at that time but people lied about their age quite often on marriage certificates.

Thanks, Kath, as they had to get permission to marry being (convicts) you would have thought the authority's would have checked her age ? I did see the other one that was still in the uk on the 1851 census, in fact a couple of tree's on Ancestry have this one as her parents !~!

The baptism isn't indexed, but the FreeREG info posted by Kath allows one to browse the images and find it. https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:S3HT-62KC-9XS?i=33&wc=71XH-71P%3A29967401%2C29359202%2C30168201&cc=1416598
The OPR for All Saints, Little Melton isn't online. This is from the Norfolk BTs - the Bishop's Transcripts were the church's own backup copy. The BTs give the date as 29/11/1930. https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:27CJ-WPD [with image link]
