I am looking for info on Cuthbert Griffin born 1908, he married Barbara O'mahoney in 1936 but she seemed to be called Barbara Hall in 1939 register?? They had daughter Veronica A Griffin born 1st April 1943, I thought I had found Veronica A Griffin's birth in 1943 with just the info of Griffin/O'Mahoney parents( Michael Griffin and Anastasia O'Mahoney) but it's not the right family( just a coincidence !! ) If I could see the 1939 record for Cuthbert and Barbara Griffin in Kensington, it may throw some light on the confusion?
I believe Barbara was from ireland and for some reason changed from O'Mahoney to Hall before the marriage in 1936.

How did you work back to Cuthbert just to be sure we have the right one.

A family member has done some sort of handwritten tree, so now working from that and not many Cuthbert's of that dob They say that Barbara came over from Dublin alone before marriage in 1936 and her aunt in uk made her change her name from O'Mahoney to Hall.
I also have some family pics incl Griffin Butchers Shop

Puzzled by marriage in Pockington, Yorkshire in 1936 and living in Kensington in 1939?

Also rather puzzling is that Barbara gives middle initial C on 1939 reg but Cuthbert does not give a middle initial

There is a paragraph in tree about Barbara O'Mahoney and it says that her children were told that her birth records were burned in dublin and she took the DOB of her husband Cuthbert as her own?

If this is correct thinking that Barbara's middle initial C may have been for Cuthbert if she took his DOB as her own.

Not picking up a Barbara O'Mahoney on the 1911 Irish census. Or a birth in Ireland for 1908

I would suggest buying the marriage cert to see if it gives her father's name?

Just read it again Barbara took the year of husband Cuthbert's birth(1908) and the day and month of their first child Philip's birth, which would be the 10th Feb. I found Philip J Griffin born March 1940 Kensington with mothers maiden name Hall. All other Children born in Surrey from 1943 to 1949.
So confused, if this info is correct Barbara couldn't have used her sons day and month of birth as her own until after his birth in Feb 1940??

Nicola the company is active still so you could if wished contact the family at the address on the link I posted?

I wish I could show you all this hand written docs, it seems it was written by Gerard Griffin, mentioning his brothers Basil and Cuthbert. It says Cuthbert had 3 children with Eva before they were married and this was after his marriage to Barbara?? but then it says he went to NZ in 1927? so thinking the Eva Marriage must have been before the marriage to Barbara?
Anyway thanks for your help, it's great to have all this hand written info to read over, this may take some time to work out but loving the challenge.

Possible for him on incoming passsenger list to UK, but i don't have access to that

It's likely that as Eva married as Griffin, they had been together for some time before. Possibly Cuthbert and Barbara did not divorce, hence delaying the 2nd marriage till after her death ( possible that if Barbara was Irish she may have been Catholic and not willing to divorce).

A tree on ancestry has this for Barbara.
