Patricia Report 17 Aug 2017 02:44

Hi ,

I am trying to locate my GG Gmother who was born around 1816 in Durham, Jane Stephenson. In 1838 she married Walter Tate in Newcastle upon Tyne. in the 1841 Census they were living in Dog Bank and were shopkeepers, Walter was 40 and Jane 25. Then in 1842 Jane was tried for stealing and sent to Tasmania on the Emma Eugenia, sentence 10yrs.

She got her Ticket of leave and married Charles Woodward, my GG GFather in Tasmania.

I look forward to any assistance on this.

Thanks Pat

(yes, quite a few about, you say 'Born in County' but 1841 looks like 'No', in fact would say that is another 'S' for Scotland?, as per column heading it is in)

Chris :)

(anybody else think Scotland?)

HI All,

What a wealth of excellent researchers and detectives I have found! I need to be so much more experienced., will come with practice.

I did find an Edward Stephenson in the 1841 Census, also living in Dog Bank. This corresponds with one of the name of her siblings listed on a Convict Sheet I found.

Yesterday I discovered Roots Chat and they think the birthplace could be Hexham. So have now ordered a MC and hopefully this will give me some answers.

Thanks again
