My cousin Frank Lavery was contacted by his brother prior to his death . His brother had been adopted and moved to the USA. He was searching for family. Frank was born in Brighton and lived most of his life in Coggeshall, Essex. His mother was Doris Lavery. We have no idea what his brother's name is now.

I assume you're aware of the other trees on Ancestry with Doris, one being your own I guess, is the private tree owner known to you?

Thanks for all the input, Frank born 1933, Not sure about the 1939 register info as Doris married in 1950 to become Lewry. All trees on Ancestry known to me and I am in contact with all Franks's family.

As you know that Doris married Mr Lewry, the entry makes perfect sense. The name in brackets, in this case Lavery, is the name she used when the register was compiled. The name outside the brackets - Lewry- is the name she used when she died.

The 1939 register formed the basis of the NHS system & numbers and was a working document, updated until 1991 when paper-based record-keeping was discontinued.. The image on which Doris's name is listed was updated to Lewry on 29 Apr 1950. That was presumably within a couple of months of her marriage.
Unless Frank told you that he was fostered out or lived with a different relative while Doris was working, its possible that the Closed record after Doris is him.

None of which helps identify the previously unknown brother.

You'll note the dob on the Death reg matches the one on the 1939 Register

The USA brother was somehow able to find Frank.

Do you know if he wrote to Frank or communicated in some other way?

Did Frank reply.? How did he refer to the person in America? Did he give no name?

Was there an address book entry perhaps?

Did he chat to friends / neighbours about the contact?
