If he lived in Victoria ...then ask 'VIC State Library' (on-line) it has an 'Ask Us' librarian service - they will check their electoral rolls (past & present) -and newspaper death notices -'though I couldn't see his death on the 'RYERSON INDEX' -which is up to present day..
