Hi Jules, glad you got my message! (and I got yours, thank you)
So are you interested in finding members of your birth family today?
Edward is in several trees here at this website, for example.
http://www.genesreunited.co.uk/tree/results/cruse/edward?memberkey=0&yearofbirth=1880&yearofbirthrange=5
or you may be using this version
http://www.genesreunited.com.au/tree/results/cruse/edward?memberkey=0&yearofbirth=1880&yearofbirthrange=5
(some people show him as born in 1881 rather than 1880 because they have taken his age from census records)

just for info, Julie has not read the PM sent on 12 April.
She joined in 2005 and must not have renewed her email address in her account ...

what does 'tracing' mean? -- looking for his later life, or his ancestors?
The USA connection looks like nonsense. The Harvey and Grace Cruse couple are together in 1920 and in 1940 she is with her mother in Kansas:
Grace B Cruse Daughter F 40 Oklahoma Toy N Mccarter Son M 33 Kansas (Tom - son of Grace's mother) Mary M Mccarter Daughter-in-law F 26 Kansas Deloris A Mccarter Granddaughter F 1 Kansas
aha, here they are in 1930:
Sarah M Mc Carter 59 Leroy R Mc Carter 37 Tom F Mc Carter 23 Grace R Cruise 30 > Lenord M Cruise 10
middle initial does say 'M'
someone at Ancestry has corrected the surname to Cruse; you could try contacting them for info
This just looks like the kind of foolish nonsense found at Ancesty all the time -- people make a tree and enter a name, Ancestry gives them a 'hint' (in my experience, too often something to do with the USA when there is no connection there) -- and they click 'yes' without a rational thought. And then subsequent fools adopt the same nonsense into their own trees.
There is virtually no chance that the Kansas Leonard is the right one.

Several other trees have him born in the USA Leonard Stanley Cruse
Birth: 8 Aug 1920 - USA Death: 15 Jun 1974
Parents Harvey George Washington Cruse and Grace Bell Carter
So wonder where the Edward Nowell Cruse fits in . Must be significant as one child of theirs is called Nowell, unless he was reg as Edward Nowell and is their son
