Re the Scottish side of your family - The updated Scotlands People site allows more searching free than it used to. You can do a basic search and get a surprising amount of info, although to actually see the images of records, or for full details, you do need credits.
If you like to give some names and dates, and places if possible, I (and others) will be happy to have a look for you.

Welcome to the boards.
You need to start at the beginning with your parents marriage certificate which will give you both of their fathers names, and then work backwards one generation at a time.
It is expensive but you really need to buy as many certificates as you can afford.
Don't buy credits for GenesReunited as you are better using a 14 day free trial for Findmypast or Ancestry (remember to cancel before the 14 days are up so they don't charge your card).
If any of the births or marriages happened in Scotland you will need the Scotlandspeople website which does need you to buy credits.
This looks like Moritz in the 1891 census:-

Hello everyone I'm very new to all this and struggling. I do buy credits where I can afford them.
My mums side of the family are Scottish, so no such luck as nothing free at all on sites for Scottish and the ones that charge, seem to charge so much more. Very interested though, as my mum is Low no E on the end. And also Wallace.
Then there's my dads side, my family are not the best and none have kept in any contact from around 1920s.
So asking my dad or mum, they have no idea about their pasts.
My name is Mathis and this is what I have so far, but not sure it is all right.
My granddad was William Mathis born 1907 I believe in London. No idea about brothers or sisters.
His dad my great granddad was William T Mathis I believe born around 1881 and if I have it right his siblings were. Think dates are correct. Henry Mathis -1888 Edward Mathis - 1890 George Mathis - 1894 Marie Mathis - 1898 Moritz Mathis - 1886 (born in France I believe)
I have no further information on them, if what I have is correct and this is where is get complicated, and names could of changed.
my great great granddad their dad, was also William Mathis I believe and was born in Switzerland. This is where it all stops, if I am right at all. I think he may of married a Ellen again not sure. I can't find death records for any of the above.
I've spent £££ on credits an non the wiser. Maybe it is me not knowing what I am really doing, and also not understanding some documents too.
Any help would be much appreciated. I have also tried searching records for Switzerland, but again no idea even though what I was reading was in English.
Thank you
