So Jean, do you have him on the 1911 with his brother Henry and cousin Daniel Butler as per OP, or do you mean the 1891 as posted (partly by myself earlier because that's all FMP showed) or as above via Chris Ho which shows who else he is with.

Do you actually have him on the 1911? If so please post - you do say in your OP that you can find nothing AFTER 1911.

Sorry for the delay in replying, spent a good few hours last night trrying to find him yet again on Scotlandspeople but nigh on impossible with the new site.

Yes he is on the 1911 with brother Henry and cousin Daniel, at 31, Kirk Street , his occupation was Shopman, Retail ironmonger.
It shows he is single.

His brother Henry married in 1912 showing his address as 31, Kirk Street , but John is not one of the witnesses.

When I saw the service records which Malyon put up from familysearch I thought that might be him but I don't know if it shows any NOK.

The Service records are not him as this is his marriage (mentioned in records) and his father was William.

Per Valuation Rolls on ScotlandsPeople:

In 1915, a Jeanie Wright was the tenant/occupier of 16 Kirk Street, and Mrs Elizabeth Wright was at 64 Kirk Street.

By coincidence there's a John Wright at 42 Kirk Street, but in Motherwell, not Glasgow - presumably not your John.

By 1930 they've all left Kirk Street.
There's a Jeanie Wright at Hillkirk street, but that's in a different area of Glasgow - Springburn, not Calton.

In 1915, Mrs Maggie Butler is the tenant at 31 Kirk Street.
1920, Daniel Butler is the tenant there.

by 1925, there are no Butlers in Kirk Street.

GLASGOW SHOOTING FATALITY.
Murder Charge Follows Discussion on Irish Politics.
The sequel to the Glasgow East End tragedy, in which Miss Margaret M'Hugh, 74 Kirk Street, was the victim, has been the remand of John O'Hagan (24) on a charge of murder. He appeared before the Magistrate at Glasgow Eastern Police Court yesterday, when the indictment was as follows: "John O'Hagan, having on 26th or 27th May, in a house at 31 Kirk Street, Calton, discharged a revolver loaded with ball cartridge at the woman M'Hugh, and murdered her." The prisoner seemed to realise his position keenly, and stood with his head bowed. The Fiscal asked for a remand until today, and the Magistrate agreed. It is understood that a discussion took place in a house at 31 Kirk Street on Friday night on Irish politics, and Miss M'Hugh is alleged to have stated that she had something that would settle those who were causing all the trouble. She is said to have shown a revolver to O'Hagan, and while the man was examining the weapon it went off, the bullet striking Miss M'Hugh. She died in the Royal Infirmary on Saturday.

Bit of a long shot Jean as I'm sure there would have been a few John Wrights born in the same area as your John. (Hope all is well with you)

Kirk Street was a slum area at that time, then demolished in the 1930's.

Even nowadays, Calton is an area with a high level of crime.
A Google search brings up lots of reports.

I can't see anything definite on him. Have you considered these two marriages?:

Thank you all very much for all this information, I am just going through it all again .

All i can say is that the John O' Hagan Chris found is probably not mine as my John married Elizabeth King in 1932 , his address then was 150, Stevenson street.

Going on to Scotlandspeople now to look at the marriage for 1916. and to see if there is a connection to James Hagan on the 1913 VR .

Just had a look at the marriage in 1916 to Nellie McFarlane but not my John.

Can't seem to find a connection to James Hagan either but I will keep looking.

John O'Hagan's 1932 marriage wouldn't necessarily rule out a crime in 1922, would it? Depending on what was the outcome of the court case, of course.


Report from Glasgow Herald, 29 May 1922:

A middle-aged woman died in the Royal Infirmary, Glasgow, on Saturday forenoon from the effects of a bullet wound. The woman had been admitted to the Infirmary from a house in the Calton district of this city only a few hours previously. Her name was Margaret McHugh, and she resided at 74 Kirk Street. How she received the bullet wound is not definitely known, but meantime the police of the Eastern Police Division have detained in custody a young man who will probably appear at the Police Court today.
From all accounts it would seem that the shooting, whether accidental or otherwise is not clear, took place in a house at 31 Kirk Street, which the woman McHugh had visited on Friday night. On Saturday morning an ambulance waggon was summoned by telephone to McHugh's own house, a single apartment situated at 74 Kirk Street. The driver of the waggon asked a constable to direct him to the address, and the officer, on accompanying him there, found Margaret McHugh suffering from a severe bullet wound in the abdomen. The woman was removed to the Royal Infirmary where, as stated, she died soon after admission.
The circumstances of the incident are as yet obscure, but further investigations are being made. It appears that after receiving the injury at the house at 31 Kirk Street about midnight, the woman must have made her way, assisted or otherwise, from the house there to her own house at 74 Kirk Street.. The detectives in the course of their investigations found a revolver, which is supposed to be associated with the incident, in the house of the dead woman. The revolver, of 6-chamber Colt make, was almost new and contained five live cartridges. One bullet had been discharged. A young man of the labouring class who was present in the house at 31 Kirk Street during McHugh's visit has been detained by the police, who are still prosecuting their inquiries into the affair.

I don't think the Jeanie and Robert Wright are connected to my Wright's , although i am not certain.
There are a couple of Robert Wright marriages on SP, one to Jeanie Cairns and the other to Jeanie Orr in 1905, One in Blythswood and the other in govan.

Just looked at 2 deaths in Hillhead, for John going by his d.o.b. and the date of death
but again, not him .

you may be right about the shooting in Kirk Street involving John O'Hagan as I have just found that Kirk Street was renamed Stevenson Street , the same address as John's marriage cert.

I wonder what the sentence was 'cos he went on to marry if it is the same John.

Following upon inquiry the police arrested John O'Hagan (24), unemployed labourer, in the house of a Mrs. Butler, at 31, Kirk Street. It is alleged the dead woman was shot about midnight in Mrs. Butler's house, they were discussing Irish politics.
