Can you give us all the details on the MC please? Seems logical to presume that there is some family connection.

I wonder if this is 'your' Catherine's death in 1965. Donald Johnstone was her husband.

ArgyllGran Report 24 Sep 2016 23:23

In 1929, a family named Macarthur was at Boghole:

The Scotsman 8th November 1929

NAIRNSHIRE FARMER'S DEATH

Mr James Macarthur, one of the best known farmers in Nairnshire and throughout the North generally, passed suddenly away at his residence at Boghole, Auldearn, yesterday morning. Mr Macarthur was a descendant of the oldest family on the Cawdor Estate, his forebears having been associated with it for over 600 years.
The deceased gentleman was a County Councillor of Nairnshire, and a member of The Standing Joint Committee and other public bodies. For many years he occupied a prominent position on the management of the Nairnshire Farming Society, and in the annual cattle and seed and root shows he took a keen and practical interest, being on numerous occasions a leading exhibitor. Besides being a successful farmer, Mr Macarthur found time for indulgence in various forms of recreation, and was ever a popular and welcome member of sporting circles in the district. For a number of years he was leading skip of Auldearn Curling Club, and was recognised as one of the best curlers in the North. Deceased, who was about 70 years of age, is survived by his widow and grown-up family.

However, I expect there would be more than one family on the farm at that time - the main house, a cottage or two, etc.

ArgyllGran

ArgyllGran Report 24 Sep 2016 22:28

No, no father was named on the death cert.

Mary was a house-keeper as at 1927, and illiterate - she made her mark rather than signing.

Jessie died on 18th March, and was 26, which would mean she was born between 18/03/1900 and 18/03/1901

Was there no father named on Jessie's death registration please? Have you tried to find Jessie and her mother on the 1911 census please?

Stuart

Stuart Report 24 Sep 2016 22:00

Yep bit of a difficult one

ArgyllGran

ArgyllGran Report 24 Sep 2016 21:53

Mary's address is 2 Ness Place.

It still doesn't mean that she was in either Nairn or Inverness in 1901, or that she was born in either of those places.

Ness Place still exists today - it's a little lane running between Haugh Road and Ness Bank - for those who know Inverness.

Yes good point kay

Kay????

Kay???? Report 24 Sep 2016 21:40

Dont rule out Jessie being with other family members,,,,,,grandparents etc as did often happen due to parent/s having to earn a living.

Stuart

Dea
