Dea- at least you're not left wondering!

Can you just give her first name, so I know to cross her off my list please (if she's on it)

Ohhhh Bubbles !!!!!

Well, I did just have a lovely telephone conversation with an elderly lady who I thought was a daughter of Thomas Henry Edward but NOT SO, I am afraid.............

So, 'another one bites the dust' !!! :-(

I have just sent an e-mail to someone who I 'think' may be a direct descendant of Thomas Henry Edward.

I will let you know if I hear anything from them.

Postcode/City: CR8 2JB Purley

16 Burcott Road (which is next to Brighton Road):

Emily L Rogers
James Rogers
Louisa M Smith
Thomas H Smith

AustinQ Report 12 Sep 2016 13:20

Before moving there he was living at 16 Burcott Road, Purley, Surrey. He's listed in the phonebook there from at least 1957 until 1980.

Just had a quick google- 16 Burcott Road is now a children's nursery

Also, I note from Thomas's probate posted by AustinQ that he died in Holmgrove House:

Probate:

SMITH Thomas Henry Edward of Flat 11 Holmgrove House, 11 Brighton Road, Purley, Surrey died 7 May 1988 Probate Winchester 29 September £95894

This property was established as a retiement home / sheltered accommodation in 1984 and still exists, perhaps it would be worthwhile contacting them to see if their records show any relatives' details?

http://www.housingcare.org/housing-care/facility-info-17683-holmgrove-house-purley-england.aspx

You can contact them by e-mail etc via the above page.

They may not be able to give you the details but may be willing to pass on your details to a relative so that they can contact you ?

Hello Everyone
I do volunary work helping OAPs arount the house and gardens, I am out a lot of the time. When I get a chance, I have read with interest what has been said about the searching for this family. As I am new, and not done anything like this before, I am unable to help and feel a bit useless. I have given all the info I have and know. I can see the work that people have been doing for me. I am very grateful to everyone. A point will come when all the searching has been done, then I presume that I will have to try and find someone who is doing that family tree and make contact. With any luck, they may not live far away and I will be able to give them the book. If so, I will take a photo and upload . I may have to post the book. I do have a question, if no one is doing this family tree, I presume that I can't get the book back, are there notice boards to use if this is the case. On my way out now, will check later

I see that Mary has said what I thought on reading the image:

that the inscription is not original to the time of the gift, and was added some time later.

Both the wording and the more modern handwriting suggest that to me.

(Andysmum would you edit to delete the names and birth reg info of people born in the 1940s who (at least the youngest three) are almost certainly still living and have not been informed they are being talked about here? It is invasive of their privacy to post that publicly.)

need to remember that mothers awaiting births in the war years were quite often sent into quite places away from air raid areas -- births may not be in the same areas as the marriage.

Sorry deleted message about Jemima's signature not being like the one on her marriage cert.
Also been trying to compare Thomas Joseph's signature on 1911 census to writing in the bible and to me it looks similar.

AustinQ Report 11 Sep 2016 12:20

I did wonder if the year 1912 had been added at a different time?

Dea

Dea Report 11 Sep 2016 12:15

I was thinking that too Mary but on the other hand I remember that when I was working, there was a lady there who had the most beautiful handwriting and if anyone wanted some special message written they would always ask her to do it for them.

It is possible that on such an important item as this bible, the same thing has happened here?
