Thanks for all the replies. All a bit confusing as I believe there is another Carter family that is not related to us. Henry Gas Carter the widower and the children Emily, Violet Carter etc are not relatives of ours.

My Henry Charles Carter married Mary Scorer/Fisher/Carter and had Graham, Malcolm and Ann. Then Graham married Esther Ryan who are my grandparents.

I'm confused because in our records we think Henry Thomas Carter's father was William Carter and he was married to Ann Carter.

Natasha - what is your source for Henry Thomas Carter's parents being William and Ann?

If you go back to the basics, this is the only UK birth for Henry Thomas Carter in the correct time frame

To be absolutely sure of the facts, you should order a copy of his BC from GRO

I've just spoken to my great Aunt Ann Carter... She says that her father Henry Thomas Carter had Florence, Winifred, Lucy, Gladys and a brother. There was no Violet or Emily. Sooooo confused.

We have no evidence Henry Thomas's father is William, so unsure why that was there but my great aunt Ann says Henry Thomas mother is Ann because that is who she was named after.

We know 100% that Henry Thomas Carter was born in Faulkland, Somerset in 1908 as I've got his paperwork. Just struggling to get further back.

We strongly believe now that Henry Thomas father is Henry James and Henry James is the son of Fred Carter and Elizabeth Ann.

Henry Thomas has four sisters named Winifred, Gladys, Lucy and Florence. They all have another brother too but he lives in Wales and we don't know his name.

There is a post further up saying Fredrick lived with his granddaughter Winifred so that's good.

But there are posts saying about a Violet and Emily Carter but no one in my family knows anything about them.

I also know that Henry Thomas and Florence were put into an orphanage when they were younger but their grandmother took them out and looked after them.

I think the confusion is...........

The 1911 census record posted for Henry Gas Carter....has been mis-transcribed on FMP.

The version I posted was from Ancestry and he is actually.....Henry JAMES Carter.

If you look at the image..........it reads........Henry Jas Carter.

Edit...........just checked it out on FMP.......and it definitely is a transcription error!

Corrrr it's been a long hour! I have spoken to my great aunt Ann and read through everything you've all written which has been so confused but I'm finally understanding now. I'm just lost as to who Violet Carter is, that's all.

So you have me, Tasha. My dad Sean. Sean's dad is Graham. Now Grahans dad is Henry Thomas who married Mary Scorer (She then remarried after to a Bert Fisher)

Henry Thomas's parents is Henry James and Amelia Hannaford. Together they had Henry Thomas, Winifred, Gladys, Lucy, Florence and an unknown brother - the source being my great aunt.

From you guys, I've learnt Henry James was the son of Frederick and Elizabeth Ann or just Ann and together they had Frank, Emily, Henry James, John, Mary, Chas.

Frederick's parents was Henry (born 1816) and Mary. Together they had Charlies, John, Sarah, Emily, Frederick, Lydia, James, Sarah, George, Kaziah, Mary and Hannah.

That all makes sense doesn't it? Otherwise my brain will explode lol!
