thanks for finding that info choccy and Maddie .. it may be him !!!

dea if your head is battered and you a pro imagine how I feel :-)

am going to try contact the lady again who has the Henrietta in her tree she told me when I started looking few years back it was no connection but she keeps popping up !!

this is what she told me about her info ..the sarah Thompson in her tree ( parents were Thomas Thomson and ann metcalfe ) was married to a peter chapman but her ( sarahs ) sister was Henrietta who married a john fisher ..

on my sarah marriage 1914 cert her father is Richard Thompson deceased , the 1911c of the add given on cert (malings rig) show a Thomas Thompson and his family living there ..a john fisher joins them at that add in 1912 on electoral roll..

could the Thomas Thompson be sarahs uncle ?? looking after after father died

why isn't everything just straight forward ?

Who were the witnesses on his marriage cert please?

Is it possible for you to scan the cert into 'keepsafes' on here so we can look at that signature too? (presuming that the cert shows the actual signatures and they have not been transcribed !)

If you compare the signature with that of the John married to Henrietta on 1911, who incidentally is a ship's rivetter, apart from the later one being more confident, I would say they are the same person.

However, unless we have the wrong one on 1891 census at 50 Vine St. then I don't understand why he should have that address on his record????

I am totally confused here !

I couldn't find a marriage which I was happy with for that John + Henrietta AND when I looked at John + Henrietta on 1901 they had a visitor there - Mary Cumuskey ? I traced her back to this marriage where there were 2 Mary's and one was Mary Thompson !!

Marriages Mar 1898 (>99%)
Allison Henry Sunderland 10a 813
**CUMISKEY James Sunderland 10a 813
**Thompson Mary Sunderland 10a 813 ???
THURSBY Mary Sunderland 10a 813

I am beginning to think that 'our' John flitted from woman to woman and finally settled with Sarah :-S :-0

Address is the same as census record in 1891 - 50 Vine Street. Signature is very similar on both sets of military records.

Dea + Shirley that could be correct as his son my grandfather john was born 13.11.1911 so he would have been the illigitamet boy and have Catherine as born jan 1914 the girl
so maybe then they got married in 1914 before he went off to war ??? and on the 1911 c when it said how long have they been married could they have just put how long they had been together ?

still cant find him in 1901 tho !!!

My guess would be they lived together but in order to cover the births they stated married on the 1911 census

in order for him to have his wife get an army allotment they did marry in 1914 but having had children before then he stated them as illgitimate

i have the same in my family two chidren born post 1911 ,births are reg as if they were married but they married in late 1914 when the hubby joined up for ww1

But that's not what you said on your first post, Christine, you said he was married to Catherine on the 1911 census. That's why none of us could find it.
