thanks for that Maddie your 10 steps ahead of me amazing :-) :-) ...

looking at the adds on census ..could edward (1858) be in two places on the 1881 c ??

I have him as living with wife Catherine at 1 nesham sq with their children john 3 and William 1..but also checked on the add he gave on marriage( 1877) cert of 24 Stafford st and there is an Edward 22 married living with mother barbabra
the 1891 c of the same add show Barbara 64 widow also living there an Edward brown uncle (b1841) ( so your wedding above is williams marriage to Barbara brown :-))

if my 1881 of 1 nesham sq is also right and he was in the 2 places, this family then moved to 50 vine st in 1891c and then the reason i haven't been able to find gt granddad john(b1878) in 1901 is that the army record info which was found earlier in thread is him and he was indeed in south Africa :-) ?!?!?!?!

Christine....Although I am absolutely confused with all the Fishers et al....this may help clarify some of issues...

William Fisher married Barbara Brown she was the eldest daughter of Edward Brown and Cordelia Walton.

Edward Brown 1801-1864 was Publican of The Fisherman's Arms 4 Burleigh St.(1851-1864)
Cordelia 1802-1870...

1841 Census they were living Moor St.East with children:
Barbara 12
Henry 10
Edward 2
Possibly some other children between Henry and Ed. large gap in years.

1851 They were in Burleigh St.

Barbara 23
Henry 20
Cordelia 15 (missing from 1841)
Edward 12
John 10
Jane 6
George 2
Ann Anderson. Niece. 12.

1861 shows that Henry Fisher aged 7 grandson was with them.

between 1864-1871 both Edward and Cordelia had died

1871...

Cordelia was living with her brothers

Edward
John
George
Henry Fisher 20 (Nephew)
Frances Fisher 16 (Niece)

1881....Back at The Fishermans Arms Burleigh St.
Cordelia
Edward
John.

Cordelia died at 24 Stafford St. 1883.

As per your post above....

The Edward Brown (1841) living with Barbara Fisher 24 Stafford St. (1891 Census) would be her brother not her uncle

I don't have access to 1871 Census to check the address of Cordelia et al.

The address in 1871 is also 24 Stafford St.

Thank you MargaretM

The Fishers are a nightmare but I am not surprised as the area she is looking at eg Mallins Rig Vine St.etc was a tenement area of the Docks in the East End of Sunderland....
I have so far found 25 Fisher deaths with address' for Vine Street and Mallins Rig...that's not counting those with no number.attached to the address...

Barbara Jane Fisher b 1895 d.1898 50 Vine Street. (same address as John Fishers Attestation Papers)
