Prickly - I would love a copy of the marriage in 1869. Where do you get these online. My ancestry and Genes accounts do not allow seeing the cert without paying - which site do you use? Peter

It's from Ancestry Peter.......I will send you a PM and add it as an attachment.
Prickles. :-)

I tried to send you a PM Peter and got the dreaded "Error Message" ....just checked my "Sent Messages" and one of the two messages I sent you, has the attachment of the marriage record.
Phew!!! Prickles. :-)

Hmmmm, this is interesting........
Taking into consideration.......back in those day's, a double "ss" was often spelt as "fs"
For example.........My 3x Grt Grandmother appears on the census records as Mary Mofts. Took me months to discover that the "fs" was the old spelling of "ss"
She was Mary Moss!!
So............taking that into consideration....

Chaldon St Peter & St Paul ______________________ Nov, 1952. ______________________
EDWARD ANWYL OWEN
Died at his home, Littlewood, Rook Lane on Sept 25th, age 84. If ever there was a Christian man who adorned his religion, it was he. He radiated the joy, which is one of the characteristic marks of the Christian. We shall miss him in many ways. Sunday after Sunday he was found at Matins doing his work as Sidesman and welcoming in the congregation. He could always be relied on. As School Manager for many years, he had given unstinted and generous service. As treasurer of Six Brothers Field he had been most useful. It was typical of him to provide and keep in repair the seat for the bus passengers. Generosity was one of his outstanding qualities. You would never see that "Mr Owen had given this" or that. His right hand did not know what his left hand did. He was a prominent member of the Welsh societies, Cymmrodorion and the Denbighshire Society. He was a prime mover in the early closing and also in the Daylight Saving Schemes, from which we benefit so much now. In his younger days he was a great sportsman in rowing and running. He was a great lover of the country as well as of London. "He being dead yet speaketh." "Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die it abideth alone: but if it die it bringeth forth fruit." May the men of Chaldon be stimulated to follow in his steps. Our sympathy goes to Miss Hammond, his friend and housekeeper for 21 years.

after a very long delay I have just found Josiah R Harris in the 1871 census. The problem is he is called James Harris and is not a hair dresser but a clerk. He is married to Ellen (nee Brooks) in my family tree. Class: RG10; Piece: 607; Folio: 33; Page: 3; GSU roll: 818910 He was born 1849 • Stoke Damerel, Devonport Devon He did indeed die in Stoke Damerel in 1879. as Malyon said above. I have also found him in 1851 and 1861 with his father William in Devonport, both shown as hair dressers so must be right.
Anything else on Josiah and esp Ellen would be great.. :-)
