Just an addition, as we still need his roots. It's the right side of Manchester for him to join and make his Attestation in 1873 for the RNLI at Liverpool.
However still cannot locate him earlier with his family ???

HE WAS A BAKER ON HIS ATTESTATION PAPERS two years later.
He may have upped his age for a job, but on 12th June 1873, he was exactly 18, his birthday.

1911 shows his widow and children at 98 Pembroke Street , Devonport, signed very nicely by Beatrice FEENEY.

It might be worth buying the 1907 Plymouth death cert.

If nothing else, at least you'd know for sure if that's his death (or not).

Thanks for all your useful input. We did look at the Warrington birth and came to same result, it's not him. I'm not too good at this, but I did try looking for any evidence of his father, in England, John Feeney, blacksmith. Nothing. So Sarah is stuck how to get to these roots without a concrete birth cert.

The 1907 death was for a man aged 50 in AMJ qtr, so certainly born later than June 1855, IF the person registering the death had calculated accurately

What are you trying to prove?

Until 1875, there were no penalties for not registering births, so his may simply not have been registered.

The GRO has CIVIL registrations

I'm getting involved discussing this with my friend Sarah. I found a newspaper entry with his death in 1907, Plymouth I think, which mentions RMLI and Pembroke Street. So I think it's him.
Problem is neither of us can find a suitable birth entry on GRO Matching either 12th June 1855, or 13.5.1856 both John Feeney, revealed on RMLI service records from national archives.
Has anyone any ideas please? are Catholic records not in GRO, and what about military births if there is such a thing?

But can't see John with a blacksmith father John in 1861 or 1871.

In view of the birth date given above, this would be more likely to be John's birth reg:

I have several relatives who gave their birth places as Manchester when their births had been registered in Warrington.

At that time included in the registration was a place called WINWICK WITH HULME which comprised of Hulme and Winwick which adjoined each other.
