If you buy a copy of her marriage cert, that will at least give you her father's name, on which to base research.
Wiithout that, we're groping in the dark, I'm afraid.

There are two suggestions as to Mary's place of birth in trees on Ancestry -

Selby, Yorkshire (no proof offered, and no such birth shows on FreeBMD);
[EDIT: There's the birth of a Mary Allison, but not a Mary Turner.]

Blackburn, Lancs ("proofs" include 1900 & 1910 US censuses, the 1888 travel record, and the findagrave site - none of which say more than that she was English. Also two 1891 UK census records for completely different families, one of which included a wife named Mary, who was born in Blackburn!)

Several (probably copying form one another) give October as the month of birth - but goodness knows where they got that from.
Year of birth varies from 1860 to 1863.

Basically, nobody knows where or when she was born, or who her parents were.

Hi,after contacting a distant relative she seems to have heard of a newspaper clipping,(from which U.S.paper,I don't know) showing transfer of property from a Mary Allison Davis to a James Clarence Allison(son of James and Mary Allison).
Hence the idea of second marriage for Mary? Also there appears there's death record for a Mary Davis in Michigan. She didn't give a date.Parents listed as George and Margaret, from parish of Auckland which would tie in with Maddie entry at 13:41 today.
Regards,Terry.L.

ArgyllGran Report 23 Jan 2016 14:08

If the death record posted by Maddie at 12:48 today is the correct one, then no, she didn't remarry.

Terence Report 23 Jan 2016 14:07

Thanks to all replies. As advised have removed thread for Mary Turner and added to this thread.
Argylgran-,the family did travel to America in 1879 and again in 1880 before finally settling there.
Maddie-this appears to be a very good likelyhood.

Regards,Terry.L

Hi,everybody.I'm looking for the parents of Mary Turner,c.1861-1952 who married James Allison in 1881,Auckland.I would also like to know if she remarried after James died in 1922.This remarry would obviously have been in the U.S.

All help gratefully received,Terry L.

A long shot:

this seems to be the only Mary Turner with no middle name, born 1862 (apparently), living in Auckland area in 1881:

Can't see her in 1871, though.

So -
going back to your original query about when the family travelled back to UK (and no help with your new query about Mary!), James, at least, must have travelled back between the 1880 census date, and the date of his marriage in 1881 - assuming the marriage is of the same James and Mary.

Do you have a copy of the cert to ascertain parents' names? - which would also help with your search for Mary's parents.

It does look like the same family as in 1880, but only Thomas and wife Elizabeth are listed as having been in US before 1888.

Is this a different James Allison from the one on the 1880 US census posted earlier, Terry?

The date of the marriage suggests that, and Mary's not on the 1880 census with that James.

This is what Terry posted as a new thread, which AnnCardiff has advised him to delete:

Mary Turner,c.1861-1952.

Hi to all you helpers.

Mary married James Allison in Auckland,Co.Durham,1881.
As mentioned in previous posts they and the Allison family settled in Philladelphia.
I would like to find who her parents were.
It is also quite possible she remarried after James died in 1922. Can anybody find a record of who she married.
The name Davis has been suggested. This would have been in the USA, but unknown as to where.

As usual, any help will be greatly appreciated. Terry L.
