I think it might be something to do with 2 wives. One having died and the remainder of the estate goes to the surviving wife?

Not 100% certain

Added: Or a clause in the Will. I see Louisa Janet (wife) died just 2 years after him

PR in the probate record could mean probate revoked (from Google)

This gentleman is mentioned in my ancestor's diary written in 1889 in India and the writer is so full of praise for him:
" . . . & last & chief of all Mr. Knyvett, district superintendent of police, one of the nicest of all the men & have known & liked out here; a truly manly man, full of energy, vigour, courage, resource; an ardent sportsman, an equally ardent ‘butterflyist’, & naturalist in general; a lover of music, & the tenderest & most devoted husband & father."

My research has found references to his 'butterfly' interests [!], and also the entry for him in the India List. I have his marriage to Louisa Janet, nee Jessopp, in India.

But I am puzzled by the entries surrounding probate for his Will. He died in India on 10th June 1911, the death was subsequently registered in London - OK there. And probate was granted to his widow Louisa Janet Knyvett. OK again. But there is another probate entry on ancestry for 1954 which I can't make any sense of!

My ancestor mentions that he is a devoted father and I can find four children for him and Louisa: Margaret, William, Godfray and Beatrice.

Then I am stuck. I would so like to find his current descendants and let them know how highly thought of their ancestor was - I know I would like it if the boot was on the other foot!

Can you help, please? Can anyone trace the line 'down' to a current descendant? Luckily, I hope that it's a reasonably uncommon surname .............
