In case you were polishing off Samuel Clegg, someone has added this burial to their tree on Ancestry

Image adds (Son of John) but we're fairly certain from the marriage record that his father was Henry.

There are quite a few Samuel Cleggs with similar yob and deaths within a short time of each other

Here I have to suggest a different connection.

The 1841 Census given previously for the Clegg family gives Father as Samuel c.1791 and I believe his marriage is :-

Thank you Londonbelle, I have had so many threads on the go recently that my head is spinning. I think I am just asking for one piece of information, to help me fill in my tree and all you kind people give me so much extra that the best I can do is copy it out and go through it later, hoping I will understand the connections.

There has been some mention of John Henry Cook coming from Scarborough and I would like to find him with his family please. Were they still there in1871 please?

I have just checked 'View Images' in FreeBMD for the whole of 1866 and there is no John Henry Cook in Scarborough or anywhere else that seems appropriate, so checking the census for there is probably going to reveal nothing either. My 1891 does not give his place of birth so is it somewhere other than Scarborough?
I have actually scoured IGI also and I can't find him being born anywhere, but at least he goes on to get married and have children!

Scarborough came from a 1881? (need to check- yes is correct) census

It wasn't compulsary to register a birth prior to about 1873. Perhaps they didn't bother?

Nellie was born as Clegg. Census shows Eccleshill, which is under Bradford

Thank you Andy, it seems to be an extravagant way to camouflage a 'honeymoon baby' ! Of course Ilkley Moor would be a good place for a 'honeymoon', especially if you were ba tat .....

Now moving back to my earlier request, is there any chance of finding John Henry Cook with his father Joseph and mother, currently unknown, or were they also on their honeymoon at the seaside at Scarborough?
Perhaps they were walking along the cliff tops when Josephs hat got blown off .......
