Re Helen's birth in the workhouse ........

Don't forget the workhouse often had the only hospital in the area, and certainly it would be the only hospital that would not charge, thus was affordable to those of low income.

So Helen being born in the workhouse does not mean Emily and she were IN the workhouse.

That is the one that I came up with too Chris and having checked I found that in 1909 the date 9th August did indeed fall on a Monday which is what is stated on that receipt so it looks good !

Is this Emily in 1891???

If so, she seemingly lied about her age on their marriage certificate, where she imlied she was born ca 1863 :-D

Not unusual when one spouse is a lot younger than the other!! But it does help in trying to find her after they married :-)

Did Charles have a second forename??

IF he did, could he have been buried under that name?

Have you tried to trace Emily in the 1901 and 1911 Censuses or on Electoral Rolls to see if they were together?

I'm looking at trying to get a clue as to when he might have last been "seen" in records!

George
I could only find the marriage for Charles to Emily in Fulham.
I wonder if Charles had a middle name.
