Just as a matter of interest - going back to that 1871 census where the three children were in the workhouse...................

Although he has the word slightly wrong I believe that they were put down as 'Marine Store Dealers' as this is bracketed together and underneath it says orphans.

A 'Marine Store Dealer' was another terminology for a rag collector, junk collector etc., which is perhaps what these poor 'orphans' had been doing to sell what they could find to buy food etc.
